Welcome To Peaceful World Blog

Welcome to the Peaceful World Blog. I have given a brief description of my concepts below. They are not etched in stone and need to be developed before they can be implemented. This is a starter to get the conversation going. Please let us be civil to each other, since every topic will have strong and diverse view points.

My thoughts ……

If asked the question what one wants from life, I would guess that most people would say, in no particular order, happiness, health and wealth. However, in this day and age people work themselves into the ground driven by the need to generate more wealth. The reason for this can vary from need to make ends meet, desire to compete with friends/neighbors, power, pure greed and last but not least wealth is perceived to be a necessity for happiness .

When you consider the various governing systems, the majority of the current systems are based on monetary principles. There are three major systems practiced: communism, socialism and capitalism. Lets briefly look at these systems and what their outcome seems to be. Communism eliminates all forms of freedom and tries to make a monolithic society with very tight controls. The leaders however have special privileges. This in time brings the fall of the system as people start to demand more freedom and sharing in the prosperity of the country. Socialism tries to compress the financial strata and deliver the needed services to the population. The problem is it puts significant pressure on the available resources. This leads to inefficient and wasteful use of the limited resources and finite funds. Thus everybody does not get the same level of service. Capitalism is based on competition by setting incentives to maximize efficiency and wealth. The one thing that is not controlled or considered in this system is greed. This leads to wealth and prosperity being shared by a limited number of people, leading to dissatisfaction among majority of the population who work to generate the wealth. One can infer that money or a system based on monetary principles can lead to segments of  population that are restless, this will cause instability. The other factor of governance is the religion practiced by the majority in the country. This worked well when we had kingdoms and fiefdoms, the ruler had the final say in everything. This fails as people want more freedom to determine their own path.

When we look at how the landmass has been settled by people and countries created, one again sees conflicts and war of varying dimensions. Creating a country leads to nationalism and pride with different norms that leads people to defend them at all cost. Can we take the time to dream of no countries and a world with nothing to defend. Everyone can enjoy and practice what they like and believe. This can improve the life on earth.

Alas, this will not be possible since many of the current conflicts are generated with religious under pining. We cannot eliminate religion, since many people generate significant strength from it to live their daily life. However, we can try to modify how religion is taught and practiced. Maybe exposure to other religions can show how similar they all are (my opinion). This may enable better tolerance for other religions and thus reduce, if not eliminate, conflicts due to religious beliefs.

One word that could summarize the major reason for all the problems discussed above it is lack of tolerance to “DIVERSITY”. If one could learn to understand the value of diversity and propagate its virtues, we will proceed to resolve most of these problems.

Based on these thoughts, a model for the world can be proposed that has no money, no country and religion practiced with more tolerance towards other religions. I am considering atheism as a form of religion in this discussion. These will then allow us to eliminate/minimize the issues talked about above. No money will be the most difficult concept to internalize and implement since most of our evaluation is based on amassed wealth. One should ask the question when was money introduced in society and why? This might lead to some fruitful thinking.

Before one blows her/his mind with these concepts to various legitimate questions rushing through their mind we need to work through these questions to a possible solution path.

Please be courteous, critique ideas and not the person suggesting it. If possible for any issue or critique posted try to suggest a pathway to achieve a win-win situation.

A good implementable pathway to achieve this goal for all of us is needed for a Peaceful World. Welcome to this exciting and fascinating journey.

A wonderful thought! With great luck, it would probably take another 500 years to get there……!
The last 80 years since World War II, have probably seen the least wars, at least in the last 2000 years.
The greatest growth of any religion in the world in the last decade has been that of ‘No religion’! Most people are leaving their religion and not joining another. (which does not mean that they are Atheist)
Communism is more or less dead, Socialism is becoming scarce and at present Capitalism seems to rule with all its defects. No two economist seem to agree with what is wrong with it!
Governance, either over a landmass or wealth, is something no one would forgo easily and this would take a very very longtime to have all countries to unite. I am not sure ‘Democracy’ is the right prescription here in governance.

Fear, Greed, Hatred & Ego seem to drive most of the people.

So my two cents……. Religion may slowly vanish, (but it will have its upheavel), conventional wars may reduce, even basic needs for all mankind would become a possibility in the next 100 years, but there is no way people in power are going to let go of it! You would have to make do with different countries with borders & some skirmishes between them (not wars). A multipolar world it would be!

Thanks for the comment Venkatesh. I am glad you think it will only take 500years, in the life of this planet it is a negligible fraction of time. Lets keep at it.
